1 Understanding FIRE Targets

The blue widget at the top-left calculates your "Freedom Numbers" based on your projected annual spend.

• Standard (4% Rule): The classic safe withdrawal rate, designed to last 30 years. Best for retiring at 60+.
• Early (3.25% Rule): A safer withdrawal rate for early retirees (age 40-50). It is designed to survive longer timeframes (50+ years).
• Coast FIRE: The amount you need invested today to never save another penny. If you hit this number, you only need to earn enough to cover your daily bills—your retirement is already funded by compound interest.

2 Asset Buckets & Strategy

Click + Add Asset Bucket to track different accounts. The tool treats them differently based on tax status:

• Taxable: Standard brokerage accounts. These are spent first in retirement to let tax-advantaged accounts grow.
• Roth: Post-tax accounts. These are excellent for long-term growth as they are tax-free.
• 401k/IRA: Pre-tax accounts. Access is restricted before age 59.5 in this simulation (triggering liquidity warnings).

3 One-Time Expenses

Planning a wedding, buying a boat, or paying for college? Add it to the One-Time Expenses widget.

• Work Equivalent: Calculates how many months of your current savings rate were "burned" to buy this item.
• Opportunity Cost: Shows how much that money would have grown to by retirement if you had invested it instead.
